Stepping Through God’s Door Study Highlights
Overview:
We partnered with global nonprofit Compassion International and Tyndale Publishing to produce Stepping Through God’s Open Door: When Compassion Meets Action, a five-session video study designed to inspire viewers to live with purpose and step into the opportunities God places in front of them. Featuring teaching from John Ortberg and Compassion International President and CEO Santiago “Jimmy” Mellado, and hosted by bestselling author Ann Voskamp, the series blends spiritual insight with real-world mission—demonstrating how everyday choices can reflect a life of compassion in action.
While created as a resource for small groups and church settings, this project was ultimately about something bigger: advancing Compassion International’s mission to release children from poverty in Jesus’ name by inviting participants into a deeper understanding of faith that leads to global impact.
The Vision:
Compassion International is known not only for its child sponsorship programs, but for its commitment to helping individuals understand their role in responding to poverty, injustice, and need. This video study was designed to bridge the gap between spiritual belief and practical action, using visual storytelling to highlight the kind of world-changing work Compassion facilitates every day.
To deepen this connection, Compassion provided access to a powerful library of photo and video assets from the field. We intentionally wove this nonprofit imagery throughout the study—not as supplemental visuals, but as a critical storytelling element that grounded the teaching in real lives, real children, and real opportunities for impact.
Our Approach:
From pre-production through final delivery, our team handled all aspects of the video production and postproduction:
Concept Development: Our team led the full production process from concept to final edit.
Location Shooting: We filmed teaching segments with John Ortberg and Jimmy Mellado in environments that felt authentic and direct, allowing their messages to connect on a personal level. For the hosted segments, we designed and built a custom set for Ann Voskamp that reflected the tone of the series—warm, reflective, and emotionally resonant.
Post-Production: We carefully integrated Compassion’s field imagery into the content, ensuring that the message of global need and opportunity was front and center. Every creative decision—from lighting and pacing to color and sound—was designed to move viewers from inspiration to awareness, and from awareness to action.
Supplemental Content: Alongside the main sessions, we produced a promotional trailer, curriculum bumpers, and social-ready clips to support the study’s launch and distribution.
Results:
Stepping Through God’s Open Door has become a compelling tool for Compassion International to share its mission through a new format. By combining teaching with powerful nonprofit visuals and storytelling, the series challenges viewers to rethink their daily decisions and consider how they can respond to the needs of others with courage and purpose.
For us, this project was more than a video study—it was a chance to amplify the work of a nonprofit that is changing lives around the world. We were grateful to help bring that story to life.
